ARTIST'S STATEMENT:

I love to paint! A few years ago, I took a Batik Watercolor class from Carol Spohn which inspired me to do more batiks, and I have done lots of experimenting with this media. I don’t have enough time to paint usually, so appreciate my Attic Artists a lot, as I know ONCE a month I will paint a lot. Fall is most inspiring to me...all the colors!

I sell note cards and prints of original paintings of my own as well as from the artist group on my website and at shows. We have nearly 200 note card designs now. I am the founder of the Attic Artists. We have been meeting in my Eastside attic once per month for 13 years. We produce a monthly newsletter and do art shows and festivals together. The artist group has grown from 7 charter members to about 37 members.

BACKGROUND (from Attic Artists’ Newsletter):

Connie Keithahn is the founder of our group, the Attic Artists. She has been an inspiration for all who are around her, whether it's in the "attic", the garden or over a cup of coffee.

She comes from a family of artistic talent. Her father was a painting contractor for 30 years. Her mother was a watercolorist (and a very good one: Ada Copp Larson). Her sister, Patricia, was an art teacher at Rochester Community College and her brother Rob, at one time paid for college as a photographer. She said, "I always felt like I was the non-talent in a very talented family...all I did was play the piano!"

She has had a varied and industrious career that has included being an Assistant Membership Director for MPR, working on the Prairie Home Companion Show, and illustrating the first 2 books published for Garrison Keillor (Pledge week premiums). She was a reporter for 18 newspapers in California, was a Marketing and Sales manager for 2 exclusive Beverly Hills Hotels, and the Administrative Manager for Grubb & Ellis Commercial Brokerage. She has worked for Metropolitan State University for the past ten years, and hopes to retire in Nov 2011. She is an artist, a gardener, a gourmet cook, a mother, grandmother and a friend.
